Saudi prince’s gift to US centres draws mixed reaction

Published: March 18 2006 02:00Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, one of the world’s richest men, has embarked on a marketing campaign to promote his combined $40m donation to bolster the Islamic studies programmes at Harvard University and Georgetown University.
The extravagant two-page advertisements - which have run in The New York Times, The Washington Post and this newspaper among others - introduce the new programmes under the banner headline: “We share the same world.” (my emphasis) Georgetown is renaming its Islamic studies centre after the prince, and Harvard is naming its programme after him…
Commenting on skeptic’s who raised questions concerning the motivation for this largess….
…A spokesperson for Harvard dismissed those concerns. “The purpose of these gifts is to foster a greater understanding of Islam as well as all the world’s religions,” she said.
Is it possible that the money will enable them to better understand this Islamic practice, as we move forward to share the same world.:

Afghan who converted to Christianity faces death penalty

KABUL - An Afghan detained for converting from Islam to Christianity may face the death penalty if he refuses to return to the Muslim faith, a judge said on Sunday.Abdul Rahman was detained two weeks ago after his relatives told police of his conversion, which is strongly forbidden under Islamic Shariah law.
“Yes thats true, a man has converted to Christianity. Hes being tried in one of our courts”, said a Supreme Court judge, Ansarullah Mawlavizada, adding that his trial began early last week.
He said if the man refuses to return to Islam he could face the death penalty. Shariah law allows for the death penalty for any Muslim who converts to another religion.”

Why does the Media, most of academia and the majority of the Politico’s turn blind eyes, deaf ears and muted mouths to this sort of barbarism, while continually trumpeting the dedication of Islamic’s to Peace and Brotherhood and non-violence.
It is the damndest demonstration of the Ostrich Syndrome that has ever been seen.
